DCN St. Tropez (France) and THOMSON SINTRA ASM 
(France) are engaged by the French MoD to develop  a new 
LWT: the  MURENE.
WHITEHEAD (Italy) is  engaged by the Italian MoD to develop  
a new  LWT: the A290 LWT.
Issue of a common French/Italian Naval staff 
requirements and technical specifications for a 
common  Lightweight Torpedo based on the existing 
French MURENE LWT  project and Italian A290 LWT Project. 
The French and Italian MoD sign a Memorandum of 
Understanding (MOU)  for the development of a common 
Lightweight Torpedo.
Industrial Agreement between DCN International through
DCN St Tropez (France), THOMSON-CSF (France ) through
THOMSON SINTRA ASM and WHITEHEAD ALENIA SISTEMI 
SUBACQUEI (Italy)  for the development of a common LWT.
The Groupement Europeen d’Interet Economique (GEIE)  
EUROTORP is settled down. EUROTORP, controlled 
by DCN International (26%), THOMSON-CSF (24%) and
WHITEHEAD (50%) has the role of contractor for the new
MU90 /IMPACT torpedo, the existing A244/s LWT and any 
torpedo-associated equipment. It is in charge of the promotion 
as well as the technical and Industrial coordination of the products.
THOMSON SINTRA ASM changes into
THOMSON MARCONI SONAR.
THOMSON-CSF changes into THALES. 
THOMSON MARCONI SONAR changes into THALES UNDERWATER SYSTEMS.

into a National Company.
