COMPANY PROFILE OF EUROTORP
In accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the French and Italian Governments,
established to merge their two national programs on a new generation lightweight torpedo (LWT),
an agreement for industrial cooperation was established in the form of a GEIE called “EUROTORP”.
T
he objectives of the GEIE EUROTORP are to exploit technology in the field of lightweight torpedoes.

The member companies of the agreement for co-operation are:
• WHITEHEAD ALENIA SISTEMI SUBACQUEI S.p.A (WASS) (50%)
• DCN International, for and on behalf of DCN (26%) through DCN/SC/Stz
• THALES  (formerly THOMSON-CSF) (24%) through THALES UNDERWATER SYSTEMS

The above mentioned agreement defines the evenly balanced responsibility and sharing of activity 
within the French (DCN and THALES) and the Italian (WASS) industries. This said sharing 
also corresponds to the relative control of the GEIE; 50 % to France and 50 % to Italy.

EUROTORP was officially formed in July 1993 and is located close to
THALES UNDERWATER SYSTEMS facilities in Sophia Antipolis, near NICE 
in the south east of France.

EUROTORP’s tasks are to develop, manufacture and market:
• the French-Italian new generation MU90 / IMPACT lightweight torpedo
• the lightweight A244/S torpedo, and 
• associated torpedo launching systems and logistic support

In addition to its programme management and commercial role, EUROTORP 
is responsible for all aspects of lightweight torpedo weapon systems including:
• achieving compliance with operational specifications
• integration on launching platforms
• new systems development such as Hard Kill, submarine launched versions, etc...
